*** Only Blessed Sacrament parishioners are eligible to attend our Religious Education programs. If your family is new to the parish, please complete a Parish Registration Form before registering your children for religious education.***
Kindergarten through 8th grade meets on Sunday mornings from 9:00-10:15 a.m.
Special Religious Education (SPRED): We are pleased to offer a SPRED program for Kindergarten through 12th grade students with mild to moderate developmental disabilities. This class is also offered on Sunday mornings following the K-8th grade schedule.
Fees: We strive to ensure a fair cost for our religious education program, and although the cost of materials and books has increased, the parish is still underwriting much of the religious education expenses. See the Religious Education Registration Form for this year’s fees. We have established a Family Discount which places a cap on the fees paid in order to assist larger families. Our parish also has an education fund for those in need of financial assistance. If payment is a challenge for your family, please pay what you can and check the box marked “Financial assistance needed” on the registration form.
Baptismal Certificates: If your child was not baptized at Church of the Blessed Sacrament, please include a copy of his/her baptismal certificate with your registration.
Sacramental Preparation: Children are prepared for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion during second grade. The preparation for each Sacrament involves two parent meetings, a retreat day, catechesis at home, along with classroom preparation as found in the regular classroom text. First Reconciliation will be held during a special liturgy in December, while First Holy Communion takes place on the first Sunday of May.
Sacramental Policy at Blessed Sacrament: Before a child receives any of the Sacraments (Reconciliation, First Holy Communion or Confirmation), it is strongly recommended that he/she attend religious education class the year prior to the sacramental program. This is very important to ensure that children are well prepared and eligible to receive the Sacraments. If you have a question regarding this policy, please contact us.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC): We welcome children ages 8 and older into our RCIC program. RCIC is intended for children who have not yet received the Sacraments of Baptism and/or First Holy Communion. Students attend religious education classes on Sunday mornings following the K-8th grade schedule. Guided in instruction and faith sharing through classes throughout the year, they will receive the Sacraments at the Easter Vigil Mass.
Youth ministry opportunities for Middle School (6-8th grade) students: Retreat: A Middle School retreat is held each year and is an important part of your adolescent’s faith development. This is an extension of our religious education program and all 6-8th grade students are expected to attend. Holy Hour: As part of the Middle School RE program, a Holy Hour for middle school students provides an opportunity to experience Eucharistic Adoration. The devotion helps to increase the students' awareness of Jesus' real presence in the Eucharist, enhances their spirituality, and deepen their prayer life. Service Projects: Serving others is part of living out our call to holiness. All Middle School students are invited to participate in service projects offered throughout the year. Details will be provided as events near. Socials: Socials are usually held in conjunction with other faith enrichment activities. More information will sent to students. Middle School Vacation Bible School: During the second week in June, Middle School Vacation Bible School gives incoming 6-8th graders the opportunity to pray, create, socialize, serve others, and ultimately learn about God’s love! It is a great way to start the summer. Watch for more information in the spring.
We love parent involvement. Please let us know if you can help!
