altAs the pastor Blessed Sacrament Parish, I would like to briefly introduce myself.  I am Fr. David Buckles, and I served as Weekend Assistant at Blessed Sacrament Parish from 1996 until 2001.  I grew up on a farm in Montgomery County and am from a family of eleven children.  I have seven sisters and three brothers, and my father is a retired farmer.  My mother, who passed away in 1997, was an incredible woman whose full time job was managing our family and home.   I am very proud of my family and I enjoy sharing stories about them in my homilies.

My education, for the most part, took place near my home in Indiana until I entered seminary.  I graduated from North Montgomery High School and Wabash College, both in Montgomery County, and attended one year at Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis.  After my year of study at Indiana University School of Dentistry, I left dental school to begin my studies for the Priesthood at Josephinum College in Columbus, Ohio.   After one year of Philosophy at the Josephinum, I went to the North American College in Rome, Italy to study Theology and Canon Law.  After completing my studies, I was ordained to the Priesthood on July 16, 1988, the Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, in Lafayette, Indiana at St. Mary Cathedral.

My first assignment after returning to the diocese was as Associate Pastor at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Carmel, Indiana followed by a one year assignment as Associate Pastor at St. Ambrose Parish in Anderson.  After these two years of parish ministry, I began my full time assignment at the Diocesan Tribunal, which would continue for the next eighteen years.  During those eighteen years I was assigned on weekends to assist at several parishes throughout the diocese.  One of my longest and most memorable assignments for weekend assistance, however, was my six years here at Blessed Sacrament.

In July of 2008 I celebrated twenty years of Priesthood.  In looking back over those twenty years of Priesthood I became more aware of the numerous blessings I have received.  The past twenty plus years of priestly ministry have been filled with many wonderful memories and many incredible people who God has brought into my life.  I am thankful for the opportunity I have been given to serve the people of this parish and I look forward to many years with you as your pastor.
